Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Fall 2018 Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Gloucester residents can safely dispose of hazardous chemicals used for pools, lawn maintenance, 

and household cleaning during the Fall 2018 Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled on 

Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Guinea Road Convenience Center, 7599 

Guinea Road, Hayes, VA.

This event provides an opportunity for Gloucester County residents to dispose of automobile 

hazardous waste such as antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, gasoline (including gasoline/oil 

mix), as well as automotive and other lead‐acid storage batteries.  Used motor oil can be routinely 

recycled at any of the county’s convenience centers.  Gloucester residents can also safely get rid 

of painting supplies, including paints, solvents, thinners, epoxies, and wood preservative.  Also 

accepted are yard, gardening and household chemicals such pesticides and herbicides, toxic and 

caustic household cleaners, mercury, and pool chemicals.  Homeowners may bring fluorescent light 

tubes, LED and CFC bulbs to the collection event.  Please note that items listed above can only be 

accepted in amounts for “normal household use”.

Computers and computer monitors, keyboards, and printers will be collected as well as television 


Some items are not acceptable at the collection.  Unacceptable items are ammunition, explosives, 

fireworks, marine and other flares, radioactive waste, asbestos, drugs and medicines, and other 

medical waste.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection is open only to residents of Gloucester County.

Two collections are planned annually.  The spring collection will be held at the Middle Peninsula 

Landfill and Recycling Center in the Glenns area in April 2019.
